Once again, it has been a while since I have written an entry, but the main reason for this is because, to be perfectly honest, nothing very interesting has been going on. I just do the usual thing every day right now, which is wake up, go to work, come home, lounge around a bit, and then go to bed. I do wish that I could find something to do though. Take today, it's a nice day outside, but there is nothing to do outside. This kind of upsets me, but that's something I'll have to fix in the future. Right now I just need to catch up some things.
But it's not like I don't do anything from day to day. I still do the normal chores like shopping and paying bills. Every so often I take a weekend and go visit Valerie up in West Virginia where we do some things together. And occasionally I might go out downtown to look around a bit. But it's kind of hard to do things like that when I don't have much extra money coming in right now due to all these bills.
But my favorite thing to do lately is going out and singing karaoke. I find I enjoy doing this very much, and people say that I'm rather good at it. I personally think there is room for improvement, much room for improvement, but I am my own worst critic. Maybe I'll have to tape myself someday to see how I actually sound.
It's not just the singing that I enjoy going for though. It's also the friends that I have made. There are always people there to talk to and people there know my name when I walk in.... even the bartender's are getting to know me. It's not like it's a large place, but size doesn't matter, it's the people that are there. Where I go every week is Jojo's Bar. Just a small bar here in North Charleston, SC.
There are a couple of songs that I sing at least one every time I go. Sold and Big Balls are the ones that I feel I do best at, and that I enjoy singing very much. I try new ones quite often. Last night for instance I must have tried 4 new songs, always trying to find ones that I really like to sing. Not many people were there last night so I got a lot of songs in. That is not always the case. Some nights it is very packed and I only have time for a couple of songs for the 4 hours that this is going on. Either way, I always have a good time. Plus, as I said, I have met many people there who I enjoy talking with. Plus, you never know who might come in.
Friday night at Jojo's, it was again not so full, but more people were there than Saturday night. Usually they stop that karaoke at 1:30 in the morning, but sometimes Udana, who is the usual karaoke DJ, runs it over a bit to 2 or maybe even 2:30. Last night she was packing up to get ready to go after the last two songs were done. But then one of the bartenders, Beth, came up to her and started talking to her kind of secretly. After that, Udana passed out a couple of books and said that we were going to run over until 2:00 so she will have time to do a couple of more songs. I got another one in and sang "Truly, Madly, Deeply". I didn't do too bad for it being my first try at that song and not have heard it for a while. A couple of more people went up and then a new guy, one who I had never seen there before. He got up there and sang "This Magic Moment" by The Drifters. He did a great job with it too, it was totally awesome. He didn't even follow the screen for most of it, he just kept putting his hand up toward it and shaking his head no, saying he wasn't going to follow that. And he kept going on and doing his own thing with it, but that didn't matter because he was doing so well at it. After he was finished, I got up and shook his hand, saying he did an excellent job. He then said to me, "You did a good job with your last one too, T". T is the name that I'm known by around there, because that is my karaoke name, at least the one I write down all the time. He then went off and started talking to some other people. He was a bit tipsy so he was talking a lot. And then he started talking to some people about how he had like 15 gold records and such. Then, Udana's boyfriend told me the news. He was the lead singer from the Drifters. I would have liked to have had is autograph, because he is the first celebrity that I've met, plus he told me I had done a good job. Alas, the reason that the secrecy was going on before, was because he was trying to avoid being treated like a celebrity and such. He was a personal friend of Beth and Jimmy. So, I respected his wishes. It was just great meeting him.
So, like I said, you never know who you might meet. But that was just a rare occurrence. I don't go there hoping to meet celebrities or anything... I go there for all the friends that I meet... and friend's that I will remember forever. To Ryan, Dan, Udana, Pops, Diane, Cody, Brian, and Wayne.... plus to some of the other's who I've met and don't recall off the top of my head, and everyone who I meet in the future... I wish to thank you all now for the memories you have given me, and to the memories that are yet to come.
